Pros

Established leader in the market.

Cons

Culture shift; lots of changes, that seem haphazard; promotions and titles are not rewarded to those who are necessarily high performers, but are thrown around to brown-nosers, political players, pretenders; many people who are "dead weights" who seem to hang on to their jobs because they are adept are looking busy but not contributing in a real way; in a time of austerity, some upper level management expend company funds for frivolous purposes

Pros

The best reasons to work for Walgreens is easily the work environment and the beliefs behind the company. Walgreens asks employees to complete surveys every year to see what is really going on in their stores and what should be improved.

Cons

Some of the choices in management are very questionable. Three of my five assistant managers did not have the needed skills for their jobs and were forced to learn the skills and the requirements through a program but that work could only be completed on the clock, when employees need them. Employees stop caring after a while and stop trying so those of us that still do care have to pick up all the slack and then we get burned out.

Pros

When hired in 05, the starting wage was competitive and there was 4 hours overtime per week guaranteed. STL or shift team lead is not a difficult position. The benefits are decent for a company of this size and it is a nice place to start for someone new to management.

Cons

No overtime. Depending on your market, in some areas you can be written up for unapproved overtime. Lost $5 in pay when forced to step from ASMT to STL. Same responsibilities, same amount of work but the pay cap is now $14. For this hourly wage you can expect to be the only key holder in the store with pharmacy and the front end to attend to. Plus stock the shelves, take care of customer service calls and any problems that may arise. In our area the night STL doesn't usually get the opportunity for lunches as the shift starts at two and after 5 you are on your own. The amount of work and responsibility does not reflect the pay to say the least.
