Pros

The pay is good

Cons

no breaks for salaried individuals, on your feet all day, can't get days off that you request over a month in advance with banked PTO, no overlap, no tolerance for any personal problems or issues.

Pros

Pharmacist salary is good. Once a pharmacist learns how to cheat all the KPI's (AKA: LYING yes we are forced to lie or be fired), thereby nullifying their existence, you can eek out a pretty nice life here.

Cons

When I finally make a mistake that results in patient harm, or worse -- how will I explain my actions to the judge? To the patient? To their family? Oh, I know. I will just say, "My supervisor told me I need to PUT DOWN WHATEVER IT IS I AM WORKING ON to walk over to the counter and run the register, an interruption which distracted me from the penicillin allergy in their profile... ." Ridiculous. Patient safety? That is not #1. "CUSTOMER SERVICE IS NUMBER ONE" my supervisor told me. He knows he will not be the one on trial. This is not healthcare, folks. Working at retail pharmacy is Russian roulette, not a matter of if but WHEN.

Pros

Corporate life at Walgreens is great if you're the type of person who wants to settle down. This is a place that celebrates pinnings for annual work anniversaries and it's not uncommon that you'll see 10, 15, and 20+ year pinnings here. Work isn't stressful and you can get by without giving it your 110%. You'll get into a routine and achieve complacency very easily. If you're looking for a place where you can coast, this is it.

Cons

Walgreens is a mature company. This isn't a place where you're going to be on the leading-edge of anything. Business is conducted top-down. There have been some initial talks of making this place more innovative and adopting a more agile-like process. However, this is going to take a lot of work and buy-in from executives. At this point in time, I feel it's more conceptual rather than definitively saying it's the direction they are headed in. If you strive in a fast-pace environment like I do , you'll miss that here. This isn't a place where you'll constantly be learning or have an opportunity to push ideas. The Deerfield office is soul-sucking but the Digital ecommerce Chicago office is a little more lively and laid-back.
