Pros

As a part time-employee who has been working at a store since grand opening 4 years ago, things have gone from great, to not-so-great. As a college student, the flexible scheduling is very necessary. Wegmans also looks good on a resume' due to their overall praise. Although I don't take advantage of the health benefits, they are there and are reasonable. Extra $1 /hr on Sundays for Part-Time is a nice benefit.

Cons

There is little discipline that seems to happen at my store. The people that work the hardest seem to be treated the worst. I can pick out handfuls of employees that do not really do their jobs and basically punch in and walk around the store, with little consequences. Management, at all levels, is completely disconnected from what is actually going on in the store. Overall employee morale at my store is not that great, and every week someone else seems to quit. I've had to explain simple things to night managers who do not know what they are doing, and I am a way lower-level employee. They are horrible at posting open-positions in the store, and sometimes bring in people from the outside right away without giving anyone a chance in-store to move up. It can also take months and months to even get an interview. Working weekends are a nightmare. The extra Sunday pay is generous, but not when they drag out hiring more help and I am stuck doing the work of two or three people (at a pay much lower than anyone else in the department). At the time of this review, just about every department in our store is understaffed, and they take their sweet time to find replacements. Scheduling has started to become an issue--requests for days off sometimes go ignored, but that's okay...just call-out a zillion times without an consequences (besides screwing over everyone else in the department). But pull out a cell phone while on company property? That may get you a write-up depending on who is around. Someone earlier talked about United Way, and that is another con I have. Employees are pressured to some degree to donate (eg. being confronted personally by management), however I always refuse as I am not fond of the charities' practices. Also when on cashier, pressuring people to donate to "XXX" Food Bank is just annoying.

Only Rochester employees have a chance to move up

Pros

-Excellent benefits, including Health Care, Dental and 401K -Like the store itself -Good location -Good job security -Some nice co-workers -Many friendly customers

Cons

Wegmans prides itself on "bubble charts" and encouraging employees to move up into management positions, but this is only true for Rochester New York natives, most of whom started working with the company in high school or college. Even though the store I work at has been open for over 5 years, the vast majority of Department and Area Manager positions continue to be filled by Rochester natives. New Jersey, Virginia and Maryland natives are unlikely to ever make it past Team Leader level. Given the maximum salary for Team Leaders is in the mid $30,000's, this is very discouraging.
