Pros

Working with and in professional teams gives you an exposure to developmental issues, and how we will overcome these challenges. The greatest achievements are seeing the capacity of government staff trying to "do it themselves". We are at the forefront, seeing how policy is refined and aligned with national priorities, and this is an acheivement exhileration beyond words for those who work in developmental issues. Plus, the pay is excellent!

Cons

The excitement of a position in the World Bank depends on what you are working on.

Pros

-Tax exemptions for internationals -Good access to knowledge and international travel -Great brand name on your CV, and good contacts to make to look for further work in the future -At times it can be a crazy amount of work, but still it is much more relaxed than the private sector -Great work for staff members who can practically delegate all their work to consultants and just relax while receiving great salary and benefits --- bad for consultants of course, who don’t receive benefits and may never become official staff members, never ever, no matter how hard they work

Cons

-Extremely bureaucratic and inefficient. Processes are slow slow slow… -Lack of transparency for employee hiring and promotions. -Bank staff takes advantage of contracted employees. Short term or long term contracted consultants don’t get benefits and do most staff’s work and can only work a certain amount of days per year -It only matters who you know inside the bank. Forget about HR or on-line job applications. Practically all jobs are given with inside emails and contacts.
