Pros

Lots of international travel (in style), the feeling that you are doing something good for humankind. Good salaries, adequate benefits, diverse staff.

Cons

Tendency toward compartmentalization, innovation is not encouraged and talent management is very poor. Lots of navigation through the bureaucracy is required. American citizens are disadvantaged because the Bank needs to pay gross salary to US staff (citizens of other countries are exempt from tax).

Pros

International, multi-cultural staff. Opportunity to work on challenging development issues with some of the most knowledgeable & experienced professionals in the field. Intellectually stimulating environment.

Cons

Long hours and tough travel schedules for some. Bureaucracy can be frustrating but it's not as bad as other international non-profit organizations.

a JPA at the Bank

Pros

Being a JPA is not a work description since it could mean anything from working in IT to WBI. But I have the good side I think and work on operations directly, get to work with the client, travel and get real exposure and learning. I am loving the actual job

Cons

But the compensation and restrictions associated with being a JPA not so much. I have to leave after 2 years not to come back for at least the 2 following years. The salary is not what it should be (they set the minimum requirement to be a Bachelors degree but the truth is that 90% of the JPAs have masters which makes the salary not the most fair)
