I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Amazon in Sep 2016
Interview
I was a college hire so the interview process is different compared to internal/external hires for the AM position. There were 3 steps involved: an assessment and two face-to-face interviews. The assessment is your general behavioral test where Amazon evaluates if you can engage people and handle stressful scenarios. The assessment also tests basic math skills. The assessment was done online and took ~45 mins. The two face-to-face interviews were with people in operations, another AM and an Ops. This was done onsite at an Amazon corporate location, or at a rented office space they temporarily occupy. At the very end of the process they ask you a case exercise. It is different for everyone, and the difficulty might vary. My case asked me to procedural state how I would handle an employee issue, tagged with a co-worker issue. They want to see how you break it down, what you're thinking process is, and if you partner with anyone.
A key note here. Amazon is looking for leadership traits, especially those highlighted in its Principles. They aren't looking for the friendliest person, the best talker, or the most data-centric thinker. Know the Amazon Leadership Principles, and how you can highlight them in your answers throughout the face-to-face interviews.

Question 1
Don't remember exactly, but essentially: Your associate states he/she works very hard, but they don't see other associates working as hard. Even worse, their manager doesn't seem to do anything about it. Your associate doesn't like this. What do you do?

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Amazon in Apr 2018
Interview
I was hired right out of college, so this description applies specifically for if you're still a student:
I applied online, then about a month later received an email titled "Amazon Interview Opportunity". The email told me I'd have an interview with 2 Operations Managers (the position above Area Manager) via Chime, Amazon's texting/Skype-like service. I spent the next week preparing by looking up common interview questions and familiarizing myself with the company's culture.
I reserved a room in one of the campus libraries and set up my laptop for the interview. I was emailed 3 different codes- one for the chatroom where myself and the other candidates met up before the interview, and then the other two were for each of the interviews with the Operations Managers. In the chatroom we were told that there were plenty of positions open for all of us- it wasn't a competition. Each of us would be considered on our own merits.
I spent about 30-45 minutes speaking with each Operations Manager, and then it was over. All in all, the interview took about 2 hours. I got my acceptance email exactly one week later.
