Applied online, received an email from a recruiter to set up a phone interview. The phone interview was about an hour. Lots of behavioral type questions. One technical question. The interviewer was easy to talk with and professional. Most of the questions were others I found on this website, so I felt prepared. The biggest reason (I think) I didn't move further in the process was because my experience in a key area was simply weaker than they wanted.
I applied online. I interviewed at Amazon (Seattle, WA) in Aug 2012
Interview
Step 1. The entire process started with the HR person contacting me over phone and asking for a convenient time for scheduling an initial screening with another TPM
Step 2. The person called me at the designated time and it lasted 1/2 hour as scheduled. Questions mostly centered around Project management activities.
- What would you do if resources required for the project are not available?
- Explain about your current project
- etc
Step 3. I got through the same and was called for the "Loop" or the Face-2-Face interview in Amazon offices
Step 4. The "Loop" are day long back-to-back interviews. I met 7 different people on one-on-one basis, each lasting 45 mins to 1 hour.
- Started with meeting the Recruiting coordinator. HR Stuff. Expected salary. Relocation questions
- Next with the Dev manager. Discussions were around
- Explanation of my current role and project
- Drawing the architecture diagram of current project on the white board
- Deep diving on current project architecture
- Thoughts on how to build/implement/roll out mobile applications
- 3rd interview was with another TPM (from the same team I was interviewing for). Lots of "How" questions
- How would you handle Risk / Schedule / Resource non-availability etc
- Situational questions - Have a project which needs to be completed in 4 months, but as per estimate, you know it will take 8 months. How would you achieve?
- 4th interview was with Developers
- 5th interview was a lunch interview with the Hiring manager. Similar questions as before
- 6th interview with yet another TPM. Mundane stuff like knowledge on Lean / Six Sigma process etc
- 7th interview with Product manager. Probing on my knowledge about Amazon products. Approach to productize a process. Why do you want Amazon?
Step 5. That was the end of it. The next day I got an email from HR about my result.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Did not expect to be asked about Mobile technology. Have not worked on it. Hence was a surprise.
I applied online. I interviewed at Amazon (Seattle, WA) in Jul 2012
Interview
I submitted my resume to AWS website and got an email from a recruiter a few days later to set up an interview.
The first interview was half behavioral, half about the work I have done in my career. The interviewer went off a script and one could hear them type out stuff on the keyboard. A major downside was the interviewer's terrible accent, which made the process all the more difficult.
The second interview was with a guy whose former position I was trying to fill. He was both cocky and apologetic. A lot of questions were similar to the previous interview, however he also added technical depth and grilled on specific encryption methodologies.
