Question 1
All are case based questions e.g tell us an instance where you had to solve for an unexpected risk to your project.
I applied online. I interviewed at Capital One in Aug 2020
Interview
Got a call from recruiter after few days of application submission. She has explained the role and I did gave my background and explained why I am looking for a job change and what I can offer, how I fit for the role etc.,. It went well, then after few days I received an email from recruiter stating that the hiring manager is looking for more of an individual contributor than a manager.
I have 25+ years of IT in different business domain. Working as a IT manager for a fortune (under 10) company, much larger than Capital One and better benefits. MS & Bachelor's in Computer Science from top 20 US university etc.,
But, I rather wanted to work on latest tech stack and Captial One job offered it.
I did say that in an email that I still stay hands-on even though it is not or regular 100% on a daily basis. Then, she said the hiring manager wants me to take a Hackerank test, which is mostly for developers.
I have accepted the challenge, did complete the test, got the Outputs of my program as expected.
The second challenge was bit more complicated. I had used google to implement the solution but got it working. 'Show me one developer in the world who wouldn't use Google to implement the solution'.
Next day, recruiter sent an email stating that I did not pass the Hackerank test. Didn't give me any details of where I actually have failed.
Here's my take about what went on, the hiring manager was intimidated by my profile, so, he wanted to avoid my candidacy. His 1st attempt is by stating that he rather want a individual contributor than a well educated & qualified candidate with such a back ground as mine.
When the 1st attempt didn't work, he made a 2nd desparate attempt of having an experienced manager to take a beginner's code challenge.
I hire the candidates who are better than me. That's how the hiring should be than feeling intimidated by the qualifications of the candidate.
Overall a negative experience. I still sent a thank you email to recruiter for providing me a newer experience.
