I applied online. I interviewed at Capital One in Feb 2021
Interview
Five different interviews on same day: very different from others that I’ve been through. Job fit had actual coding to do. And one was case. Two were behavioral. One was also called technical but more of architectural perspective.
Don't waste your valuable time and energy for this pathetic company and their third class "one tech" hiring process. That's pathetic for candidates and in the end, you will just more stressed after waste of effort.
They will just keep you in their so called "pool" of "qualified candidates", their match calls are just jokes, they are actually another rounds and rounds of technical interviews and even if you do well, you will not be hired, because they don't want to hire people more intelligent than them. Period!! They are worried and insecure about their jobs as you might take them one day from them.
Don't waste your time even for interviewing them as you will never get your interview's feedback even after multiple follow-ups with recruiters. It's not just me who is saying that, you can read other reviews as well.
If candidate has already cleared all interviews which they refer as "Power Day", then why to bring 5 people interview panel for a match call? Match calls are just for supposed to be between just hiring manager and candidate, but there are no rules for that. Because you just want to waste people's time and don't want to hire somebody more technical and skillful than you.
Don't waste your time, energy, resources for this terrible terrible company, otherwise you will always be sitting in their pool and stressed forever. Better go find something else which will hire for a specific role and position which you will know from Day 1 and would provide you clear picture in end to end hiring and on-boarding process!!
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Capital One (New York, NY)
Interview
I had a very bad experience with Capital One interview process. Not sure whether it happened only to me or it happened to others but I wasted lot of time in following up and working on the test.
I was contacted by recruiter after she reviewed my linkedin profile. I was very much interested in the role and accepted the invitation to chat. Had an initial call and it was decent information exchange. She told me that she will send an email with all the details regarding the position. She never sent any email. I was the one who was following up in the linkedin and she used to respond after many attempts and that too only with limited information. If asked for more again I have to follow up and need to wait for long time. I was frustrated but thought let me give few more tries because I liked the role. Finally she responded saying that there will be a call with one of the Director and there will be one programming test to be taken before the phone interview and onsite interview. I scheduled the call right away because I wasn't sure whether I will get a reply if I miss that chance :-) Director called me on the scheduled date and time and he was gauging my expertise and my work. The conversation went fine. Days passed by but no reply from the recruiter. I pinged in linkedin again for my status. Then I got a response after long wait saying that I need to take the programming test. I had to ask for feedback about the Director call. She said it went very well. I received an email about the programming test with a link to hackerrank.
This test took long time as it was vague and need to understand the whole workflow. They had their own linux based platform inside the hackerrank setup. We have to use terminal to run the program. There were certain test scripts which read the text instructions and used to produce the output. To do outside in our local environment we need to setup and it will be tedious so I tried doing it in the terminal itself.
The test had a time limit of 3 days and we need to complete by that time. I did in my leisure intervals and was able to complete it after learning few things and able to use based on the test instructions. I submitted the code and communicated the same to recruiter. I followed up several times but no reply from the recruiter.
I was so much frustrated because I invested so much time to go through this process so I left following up again. Its been many weeks now and I haven't been contacted. Whether it is yes or no the candidate needs to be informed because we invest so much of our personal time and it needs to be respected.
This is my personal experience so I can't comment on the actual interview process. May be I got into wrong hands. Just wanted to share it so that if you happen to have the same experience please don't follow up like what I did and waste your time.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Programming test related to weather application which has some stubs that need to be completed and tested based on the instructions that are provided. Also we need to add new APIs and workflow. The entire thing is like a project with pom and also a terminal application embedded inside hackerrank specifically for Capital One
