I applied through an employee referral. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Deloitte (Philadelphia, PA) in Mar 2008
Interview
was referred to the firm - had a phone screen first followed by 3 sets of 1 on 1 interviews -- One behavioral, and 2 case studies. The last one was with a partner - he's the final word of course.
the process was quite seamless - if they like you, things will move quick.

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Deloitte (Chicago, IL) in Jun 2012
Interview
First round was an HR prescreen on the phone. This took less than a half hour, and was essentially a walkthrough of my resume. Recruiter contacted me the same day to invite me to a second round, and had me fill out the complete application on their website (I came through a sourcer).
Second round was about two weeks later, a phone interview with a Deloitte Manager for about an hour. Again, a lot of resume review, and then informal discussion. I wasn't notified about results until about two weeks later. Actually they waited so long that I almost wrote off the opportunity because I hadn't heard anything.
Third round was two weeks after that. They flew me to their Chicago office (paid for airfare, hotel, taxis, parking at airport, per diem, etc.) I met with three different interviewers.
First interview was all hypotheticals (i.e., tell me about a time you worked for a difficult person, tell me about a time you worked with a team, tell me about a time you had to deliver bad news to somebody, etc.)
Second interview was a case interview. I suggest picking up a book on case interviews or doing a google search on this. Ask as many probing questions as you can, and show your process/methodology as much as possible. They are not as concerned with the answer; they are more concerned with your thought process to get to the answer.
Third interview was a skills assessment - basically another resume walkthrough with someone who had a depth of experience in our area of expertise. The goal behind this one is to make sure you're being considered for the appropriate level, operating group, alignment, and location preferences within the firm.
Each interview was 45 minutes with a 15 minute break in between (though I used the break as an opportunity to keep the interviewer into overtime, and ask them my list of questions).
Recommendations on how to prepare: (1) Know your resume inside and out, and prepare the 2 minute elevator pitch on the highlights. (2) Check out the Deloitte website, and ask a few good questions on the company that show you've done your research. Know as much as you can about the position they are recruiting for. (3) Be prepared to answer: "Why Deloitte?"
Everybody was really nice, and made the process an enjoyable experience.

Tell me about a time you made a mistake. (Goodluck answering this without incriminating yourself!)
