I applied through college or university. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at EY (Dublin, Dublin) in Feb 2015
Interview
A basic 30 minute competency based interview at the EY offices. Quite mundane and there were no curveball questions. As the name suggests they are looking more for enthusiasm and traces of competence than any defined skillsets for internship positions. From my experience interviews for big 4 internships depend quite a bit on the luck of the draw with the interviewer and the service line you are applying to. Sometimes you will just click with the interviewer and have many interests, viewpoints and even a background in common. Similarly, some service lines such as Tax have a lot of positions while others like FAS have only a few.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at EY (Houston, TX) in Nov 2014
Interview
Sent in resume. The recruiter scheduled a phone interview. Phone interview went smoothly. Emailed within a week saying I had an office interview. Had a dinner and stayed at the hotel the night before the office visit. Met with a manager and senior manager at the office visit. Received an offer within a week!

I applied through college or university. The process took 5 months. I interviewed at EY (Tucson, AZ) in Mar 2015
Interview
I participated in an on-campus interview for EY's "Emerging Leaders Program", or externship program. This included submitting a resume and doing a 30 minute interview. I was invited to attend the externship in the Phoenix office and was offered an internship shortly thereafter, after having lunch with a partner from the firm.
