HR misled me into a fake interview. After I applied for one job, HR contacted me and urged me to interview for a different job in another department. I met barely 60% of the spec for the second job and expressed reservations, but they persisted.
I asked to speak with someone in HR by phone first. I asked outright if two technical skills in the job spec, which I didn’t have, were essential. The HR guy kept dodging the question and pushing me to meet with the hiring manager (without a phone screening with the latter first).
I arrived and found that the hiring manager had never read my resume. He just glanced over it in front of me, asked a few perfunctory questions, and sent me on my way. Two days later, the HR guy left me a voice mail saying I was rejected. I was suspicious. It seemed like he just needed someone to show up.
Later, I learned how some companies require a minimum number of candidates be interviewed for a job. HR at KPMG duped me so the hiring manager could check off a box and hire someone he’d already chosen.
Beware of this company's tactics. Ask to have a phone screening with the hiring manager personally to make sure you won’t be used as a sacrificial lamb.
