I applied online. I interviewed at Marks & Spencer in Jul 2015
Interview
Online application with questionnaire - no CV required. One on one interview based on general questions such as availability etc. then role play related to the department the job was for and chat with line manager from department about working there etc. Found out then and there I got the job and had to attend a 2 day training session.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Marks & Spencer (Edinburgh, Schottland) in Nov 2015
Interview
It was a really relaxed interview, when I arrived they took me through to the staff room where I chatted to some of the team members for a bit before the proper interview started. The first section was a role play, where they provided you with some information about some products and then pretended to be a customer. It was very straight forward as you were allowed to keep the information on hand so didn't have to worry about remembering everything. It was essentially just to make sure that you are polite and friendly. The second part was a couple of casual questions about my work experience and why I wanted to work there. Overall it was super chilled especially considering I didn't have any prior retail experience.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Why do you want to work for M&S?
What do you think the role of a customer assistant entails?
What are the key aspects of the M&S brand? If you were to ask family and friends what do you think they would say about us?
Have you work in retail or any customer facing role before?
I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Marks & Spencer (Bishops Stortford, England) in Sep 2012
Interview
The job was in the food hall. All applications are online where you also complete an online situational interview which is fine. Face to face interview consists of a role play which would have been fine except the two women interviewing me had no seniority and didn't know what they were doing. I was given no time to look over the information provided for the role play and I was then criticised for not using all of the material! Other than that it was okay, the manager took over later and asked basic work history questions and availability.
