I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at The Home Depot (Springfield, VA) in Feb 2010
Interview
Apply Online, then they call you. It seems pretty random, a little unorganized. They have an independent company doing initial hiring, then they call you in to the store they're hiring for. A department head or assistant manager then does the interview. They read off standard interview questions and record your answers. Very few people don't get hired especially in the spring hiring process.
I interviewed at The Home Depot (Grand Island, NE) in May 2010
Interview
I submitted a resume directly to the store five years ago and was instructed to fill out an application online. After being contacted by phone, I interviewed at the store. I was offered a full time sales position and was promoted to department supervisor within three months.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Most questions were standard. "Tell me about a time when" type of questions. They want a feel for your customer service skills and team mentality more so than your experience or knowledge of the product mix offered. In fact, I had witnessed new hires that had extensive experience with a certain category such as paint or flooring get placed in other departments for no real reason other than it was easier than moving people around.
