Question 1
One time trying to get a job working at the capital in MT was (before I was trained on it) was I was told to take 5 computers on the work bench and install cards and network them together. Due to lack of knowledge on the subject matter I of course failed. This has been many, many years ago before I received IT training.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 7 months. I interviewed at US Air Force in Jan 2014
Interview
"Interview" occurred on a Friday. Most gov't production facilities run pretty slow on Fridays. I was impressed by the amount of individuality civilians get to express. Lenient dress code, facial hair of all types are welcomed.
Be ready to provide license, registration and proof of insurance for your vehicle upon trying to enter, even if you are already on the "approved" list for entry.
Hiring authority seemed disinterested in my skill set. Just cared that I had credentials.
