I applied online. I interviewed at Waitrose in Aug 2019
Interview
Online application took around an hour. Was invited to in-store interview shortly after and given multiple dates to choose from. Interview process consisted of a group section and a 1-1 interview. Group task was choosing products suitable for a dinner party, given the requirements. 1-1 interview was quite laid back. Took over two weeks to be told that I’d been unsuccessful without any constructive feedback. I responded asking for feedback, finally being given very unhelpful numbers to rank my performance on different aspects of the interview. Overall a relatively draining process, with few positive take-always.

Question 1
Why have you chosen Waitrose over other supermarkets?
I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Waitrose in Oct 2019
Interview
(This review says I was given an offer but I have only just gotten out and won't let me publish without saying. I will edit it when I have the result)
I'm writing this to help other applicants the way I would have wanted help. I just left the interview.
The interviews take place during open hours but you don't go onto the shop floor. The interview started with me walking into the store and being directed into the break room for 15 minutes, where 4 other applicants turned up. We were directed into a conference room and given a booklet with a task by 2 managers.
You are given 5 minutes to read through 5 customer profiles. Then you have 20 minutes to discuss each customer as a group. The 5 profiles were descriptions of what a customer wanted.
e.g.
- This customer wants to cook something for a dinner party with meat and fish etc etc
- This customer is a builder across the road and comes in every day for breakfast
- This customer has had a bad experience of what they wanted being out of stock
- This customer is a vegan and wants ready meals
- This customer wants a variety of food for their kids packed lunch.
You're told to think of what questions to ask the customer, What you could offer them and what you think you could use the information to learn about in store.
The 5 minutes you're given flies by. The next 20 minutes are much slower. You aren't given any direction from the interviewers on what to think about since they stay silent, so someone in the group eventually takes charge. I zoned out for the final couple of minutes and you could feel a tension of "can we finish now" from everyone before the time was done,
When the 20 minutes were over we were told to fill out a feedback form which took 10 minutes while the interviewers went outside. Everyone let out a sigh of relief and spoke freely. The managers then returned and took people to go into the interview.
I have written the questions I was asked below. We went through those questions and got to the paperwork which was availability and the passport scanning.
Interview questions [5]
Question 1
Describe a time where you took your own initiative
The interview lasted about 1hr but this included filling out forms such as writing our preferences and availability. The interview began with a group interview which lasted 20 minutes and then a 1:1 interview which lasted 10 minutes. I received a call a week later and was offered a job. I accepted the job offer. However, the job offer was withdrawn with no valid reason.
