I applied online. I interviewed at Waitrose in Feb 2018
Interview
First, when i applied online they gave an assessment, then the ones that passed the assesment were called for interviews. it was a group interview where we were given tasks then individual questions..

Interview
Online application, followed by Situational Judgement/personality tests, then email invite to attend group assessment at store.
At the assessment I had an individual interview first with 2 interviewers for around 20 mins, which was fairly relaxed with standard interview questions, followed by a group task with 4 others.
In the group task we were given a sheet describing a typical scenario of a busy day in a store with tasks that needed completing. We then needed to discuss between ourselves what order we would complete the tasks while the interviewers watched, and present our final decision to them.

Interview
Initially filled out several questionnaires online (mainly situational), which took a while as they are quite lengthy and each time you pass they invite you back to fill out more. After passing this I was invited to fill out the main application form and, after passing this, was asked to select a date for an assessment day (2 hours, including a group task and 1-1 interview).
I was called to be told I had been successful but they had limited shifts available for my top 3 preferred stores. I asked if there were shifts in any of the other stores however the person I spoke to on the phone was not very helpful or friendly and told me that by time she was back in work (about 5 days from then) the shifts might be gone. I felt a bit put on the spot, especially as I applied for full time work, which Waitrose states is 37.5 hrs pw. When I asked if she could send me all available shifts she told me (sounding rather irritated) that she was very busy and speaking to a lot of other people.
I had an email to say I was successful but couldn’t be matched with any available shifts right now (despite having full-time availability for a long list of stores) and that I should log onto my account and change my work preferences. I tried to do this but the website was not leading me to the right page. After several phone calls, I found out that I had been put in the wrong ‘candidate hub’ and they would change this for me but it would take 2 more days.
So after going through this lengthy process that was very time consuming and cost me a lot of effort, I’ve been told I am successful but they have no shifts available. I feel extremely mislead and I am very disappointed as I know that John Lewis & Partners are a well-respected employer who treat their employees well. I feel like I’d put a lot of effort and preparation into this interview process, for a vacancy that doesn’t exist.

Question 1
General situational questions such as ‘tell me about a time you’ve gone above and beyond’ etc.
