Pros

Can help develop skills based around working to a time-frame. There is really no other positives to being a store assistant.

Cons

-No breaks given if shift is busy. -Management get finacial kickback for rostering on less staff. -Staff are not rotated from duty to duty (ie, tills to filling stock) and you can end up doing 6-7 hours straight on the tills. -Shifts start at 6am or 3pm. You will finish at 9pm and be due back at 6am for work the next day. -Unreasonable timeframes to move stock or do other tasks, if you dont meet timeframes you are bullied, yelled at and threatened with your job. -You will have no life due to the way hours are structured. -You will never have two consecutive days off in a row. -You will work at least 1 if not both days on the weekend. -Majority of the deputy managers are young and have no management or life experience. Expect young managers to make up the rules as they go.

Pros

Competitive starting hourly pay, Cigna health insurance package is decently priced, dental & vision plans are relatively cheap for employees. I was promoted extremely fast.

Cons

NO UNION. Zero work/life balance, long intrusive hours, 100% micromanaged, high turnover rate, no breaks (but if your able to get one on a special occassion, its at the end of your shift...so your a "hostage" before your able to leave). No set schedules. The business model looks superb on paper but isnt possible to execute, no respect for any employee who has a family. 30 minute pallet times. The company rewards only the employees are available 24 hours a day 365 days a year. Aldi took away 2 holidays & extended Sunday hours for all employees while upgrading Division managers company paid vehicles from Toyota Camrys to Audis. I get called in early at least once a week and forced to stay late at least 3-4 times per week. Alarm company calls my phone after 2am at least twice a week. Working closing then opening shifts are a weekly regularity (Working 10 hours then sleeping 4 before working another 8-10 hours). Employee handbook is only enforced when it benefits management. Scheduling is a year long disaster! Store Managers only have to close 1 night per week and work 1 Saturday per month. So managers forget to schedule coverage for certain shifts or will call off employees to save labor hours because they get a monthly bonus which employees do not receive. Store operates on a "skeleton" staff, meaning 8 employees is maximum hired at once and only 2 employees often run the entire store. Customers are rude due to subpar store conditions due to understaffing. 3 employees are all that are staffed to unload trucks in the mornin before the store opens. Tuesday nights you work 1pm until midnight to 4am.

Pros

Decent pay for position compared to other similar positions and industry. Cmon you don't hear a lot of grocery store paying 14 an hour for cashiers. Benefits are good. Honestly I liked working here. It gets my blood flowing when I when I am put under pressure I perform better and the end result always pleases me and my manager. This place has taught me time management, priotization, delegating, and managing employees in a fast paced store.

Cons

I'm pretty sure it happens in other stores as well. But favoritism is so high!! for example another person makes a mistake he doesn't penalize them and now when I make that same mistake I get criticized and he makes sure everyone knows you made that mistake. Now as a manager other employees have a bad outlook on you. But he will praise other managers in front of everyone including the Dm . Scheduling is horrible you can barely sleep. Store manager assumes you will sacrifice you life for the job. If you don't he gets upset and pays you back by giving you a unfair schedule next week. I got promoted from cashier to shift. I've worked here for 3 years. I've lost connections with my friends, family, and significant other. My health has been deteriorating. I'm depressed and losing all of that isn't worth the pay. Unless you are a person with no personal life and you are a workoholic you will succeed.
