Pros

It will be hard to find more responsibility coming out of college. They pay and benefits speak for themselves, but the work is rewarding. It is not for the faint of heart, but they let us know that from the start. You will not learn by sitting on the sidelines, they will throw you into the action. You will be engaged from day one and expected to contribute, which is refreshing. They attempt to hire the best, and will hold you to that standard.

Cons

Hours, work-life, and stress. This is more so at the beginning, but you will be working some hours in this position. Like I stated above, they attempt to hire the best, and hold you to that standard. They will push you for results, and if you are not returning them then you will have discussions with upper management. Again, this is only a con if you make it; most who work hard will get over this hump and enjoy successful careers and move up within the company. They tell you upfront about all of the negatives and I have not felt deceived yet. Be honest and work hard and everything else works out.

Pros

Excellent salary, working hours, time in lieu, free canteen food

Cons

No career advancement if hired as an assistant (head office), hierarchical management, senior management have autonomy and different management styles cascading confusion through the lower levels, poor morale, slow to adopt new concepts, too focused on 'the manual' yet do not live the principals contained within, 'clicky' staff, no HR department leading to poor conflict resolution, not a place for creative or free thinking individuals

Pros

From what I understand from speaking with other employees, your job satisfaction will greatly depend on the store management. So I would suggest shopping at the Aldi you want to work for and observing before applying... Anyway, I really enjoy working at my Aldi. You are always, always busy and time goes by quickly. It is crucial to have good co-workers as it really is a team effort to run a store with minimal employees. My pay and benefits are top-notch considering I'm working in a discount grocery store and the store managers and district managers always respond to your questions, requests, and inquiries. If you are a hard worker, you can move up to a shift manager position.

Cons

Expectations can be way too high. Some days it is impossible to get everything done yet the district manager will look at sales and cut employees solely due to that. It can be hard for some people to support a family because at busy times, I work 40+ hours and slower times 30+ hours. The corporate employees can be frustrating because they are hired straight out of college and don't actually participate in running a store.
