Pros

Working from home on Fridays. Coffee chat culture. Not much stress/pressure but job can be boring. Flex days are given.

Cons

The culture is very cliquey. Office politics is more important than one’s work ethic. Lack of support from HR. Lack of support from colleagues. Terrible on boarding process. Huge if not major disconnect from upper management to lower management - plenty of miscommunication.

Pros

Decent work/life, flexible schedule, young company, smart people, great offices in lower Manhattan, prestigious brand, long term view, exciting new CEO

Cons

Below market pay, bad groups have no work/life balance, few promotional opportunities, matured business model, extremely political, not a meritocracy, takes forever to make decisions / not agile, many middle managers are incompetent, managing up is rewarded while managing down has been increasingly disregarded, constant reorgs, absurd amount of time spent on planning processes and decks for internal consumptions

Pros

Work environment depends entirely on team and manager. In other teams, people had work life balance

Cons

However, in my team, it was a hellish work environment. My boss used to berate and abuse her "chosen" subordinates publicly. Every 6 months she would single out an "underperforming " subordinate who would take the fall for her incompetence. She would explicitly order us to work on weekends, and we resisted she would shout personal insults to us. I didn't get any recognition despite working many weekends and outside office hours on the explicit command of my manager. I thought that this is a one off case of a poor manager in a good company. However, I have seen her shielded by her bosses, and that has made me lose faith in the company. I wish the person who had referred me been honest about my old boss and the company values. I would have done anything other than join this company. I had to undergo a classic case of workplace harassment and bullying. I considered filing a court case but in the end I didn't because I didn't have the resources to fight a case for years. Also, in general, it is a sycophantic culture.
