Great Working Environment, Great Colleagues, Good Flexibility, Good Salaries, Good Perks, Good History

Cons

Poor Leadership, Mass Annual Redundancies, Change of Direction without due diligence, No Management Accountability so decisions are made on personal opinions without analysis or even a budget, Cash rich company so tend to waste money on multiple products that do the same thing, no governance

Pros

Core CPU group is good place to work from learning point of view

Cons

1.Highly immature and unprofessional HR 2.Management does not know about future goals, they just hit everything in dark 3.Highly unstable non CPU business which kicks on and kick off every 2-3 years 4.Managment has no transparency, expect the unexpected every once a while. 5.College, University type work culture where your manager will be competing with you. 6.Learning inter-departmental skills are not encouraged, otherwise be ready to face the wrath of the manager. 7.Employees aren't the values, they are just used.

Pros

Open atmosphere and relationships. Great “laid-back” culture. Lots and lots of vacation days. Sabbatical too

Arm is in full downward spiral mode right now. Austin has began having retention problems (similar situation in the UK has existed for a while now). A key lead arch left the austin team and many other principal engineers seem to be leaving too... In is the norm for some years now that teams do yearly releases of X product line (see public roadmap), this heavily limits innovation (ie personal growth) and prevents lateral movement — can’t switch roles if there is a tight 9-12 month schedule, no time to ramp up somewhere else; short-term and long-term development planning is just garbage, nobody really cares about your personal improvement (quality line management is nonexistant at arm); more projects done per team/per year with only few modifications (ie lets make money by releasing yearly non-innovative products); sales ppl get most credit and engineering innovation not even recognized appropriately, some eng teams in other countries not even pulling their weight, making the Austin team have ‘to clean up their mess’; many teams are understaffed; hiring qualified engs is a problem due to lack of brand/appeal (this is felt even more recently); other companies provide better perks/compensation, and even if they dont they have better presence/brand recognition (Intel/Amd); Management takesss wayyyyy to long to make decisions, and they do not delegate/empower other lower level engineers. Management is now focused on effiency rather than on innovation which is driving down the morale of the team

We have created a strong engineering culture which supports us in doing our best work. I’m sorry you seem to not have had this experience, and I’ll try to address several points that you have raised. Our Austin site has historically experienced low attrition levels due to our strong engineering culture, interesting and challenging project work, and work-life balance. Recently, there has been a lot of movement of engineers among various companies in Austin due to the dynamics of the local job market - there are several companies that are expanding their teams (including Arm), and this naturally results in people changing jobs. While this happens and is normal, we are confident in our business direction and the Arm culture, which attracts world-class engineers. We value the personal development of our engineers - we want everyone to be learning and growing their personal and professional skills, through a combination of engineering project work and other development activities. I’m sorry if you had a poor experience with your manager on this front. We are committed to developing our managers to become better leaders, as we know how important this is to our employees. The Austin engineering leadership team welcomes the opportunity to talk to people about their careers and personal development, so please reach out and we’d be happy to meet with you. Arm has been successful in attracting some of the best engineers in the industry, from college graduates to experienced Principal Engineers. We feel our brand is still very strong, and we continue to attract and hire skilled engineers into our engineering teams. Our compensation and benefits are competitive, and we offer generous health care and personal benefits. Some of the special perks we offer at Arm include progressive leave (four weeks of vacation from the start with the option to buy an additional week, four week sabbatical every four years, time off for personal care, 18 weeks of maternity and 8 weeks of parental bonding leave), and “FlexPot” which provides $8500 per year for personal development and well-being. Arm culture emphasizes teamwork and collaboration, and this can result in more consultation during the decision-making process. While this is more respectful of diverse viewpoints and includes more people in the process, it can take more time. As Arm continues to grow, this is something we are working to address. We empower engineering project teams to own and drive the delivery of their projects, and we encourage technical leads to empower the team by distributing decision making. We strive to enable engineers to focus on their work without adding overhead and bureaucracy.
