A great company with a few big problems

Pros

Avanade is a great company filled with smart, hard working people. It’s also a company that knows how to build team comradely and have fun. In addition, in spite of the bellyaching to the contrary, Avanade’s compensates its technical employees well above market rates (at least in the U.S.).

Cons

Avanade’s big problem is that they are largely a one trick pony. The bulk of their business is application development on the .NET platform. Their infrastructure business has languished over the years. Repeated attempts to diversify their portfolio of services have been less than successful, largely because of how they are organized and how management is compensated.

Pros

- Free cutting edge training for Microsoft technologies. - decent benefits

Cons

- Hard to get recognized, you basically have to be a paper professionals in order to get prompted - Most PMs are from (India & Philippine) Accenture and are highly incompetent, they speak minimal English and have no clue how to operate the projects and unable to translate business problems into technical projects, also had hard time of understanding technical people. If you ask why, it is all about more (relatively) cheap labors. - Bad (compare with other industry competitors) pay - Very incompetent HR people, avanade HR relies on an in-house application to generate interview questions. If your answer do not match their standard answer, they consider you as unqualified. Hey, there is always more than one way to solve the questions, don't put your business logics on top of the technical people - You will be ignored if you are not a manager or a high-up.

Pros

It's a great place if you want to hone your development skills on the Microsoft Technology Platform. As a Microsoft Gold Partner you have good access to get your hands on and work with their latest technology. Salary is pretty good for a programmer, benefits are decent as well. Training and conferences are available, but its about timing and who you know.

Cons

-Avanade is essentially an Accenture workforce, they run the show on projects as well as create the organizational strategy as they comprise 80 percent of our Board of Directors. -Sales force is ineffective, so all our work comes from Accenture, which makes it tough to control your own destiny. -Sr. Management is so focused on hitting financial goals that they overlook investment into the future. This is probably because most of management come from technical backgrounds and don't have business aptitude. -The layoffs over the past year seem to have no pattern, so they may have been personal. -Diversity seems to be an issue, don't see many women, blacks, or Latinos in the company as well as high level positions. Most of the workforce is white or from India.
