Pros

There is not a lot of pros to working at BDO, I would suggest working at a different firm, see below for reasons.

Cons

Do you want to be treated like you are working at a big 4 and also do the hours of a big 4 but then not have that on your resume, then BDO is for you! Here in the Houston office, there are staff auditors that are working 85 hours a week. It is pretty typical to work a nice 70 hour week and then have a manager who keeps asking about stuff. My firm was originally UHY and got bought out by BOD at the end of 2014. For UHY I would probably leave a 4 star review. However, when BDO showed up the first day of January, they pretty much immediately left a bad taste in everybody's mouth including even partners. Nobody in the Houston office is happy and emphatically and universally hate BDO. I would never suggest anybody work here.

Here's an idea....you see a problem? Be part of a solution. Speak to your managing partner or speak to me., but speak.

Pros

This is no way a place for slackers, under-achievers, counter productive lazy bum who's seeking for work-life balance. If you have these qualities, I strongly suggest you to swipe right away. My experience is strictly applicable for the Audit&Assurance industry in BDO MY only. This may not apply to you in BDO Utopia/ShangriLa/Atlantis. THIS IS A PLACE FOR: - Highly motivated people who are head over heels in love with work and completely nothing else. Remember their quote, "Work is life" If you have any interest in other aspects of life, at all, that is blatant disrespect to the firm. - People who possess 7 Chakras to charming and influencing your coworkers, always believing in the management team with a composition of young bloods throughout management, that means they stay as closely related and always be understanding of the younger work forces "Best have yet to come" - People who actively seek to sharpen their soft skills, fret not you will be dealing with different clients and engagement teams on a daily basis, you would be given chance to be exposed, at any one time, five concurrent engagements, therefore five different composition of teams and external clients, whom you call daily to check on their health, "hope this email finds you well" etc. etc. In local Malaysia context, we call this "memberi salam", this means you will always be giving blessings to others. This is good. - If this isn't enriching enough for you, you can always ask for more exposures (engagements), the management has always been very transparent. "The more the merrier" "The more you give, the more you'll have (work)" - Bottom up approach adopted by management, resulting in self pilot process being inherently practiced in almost all engagements, almost on par with Tesla's auto pilot in a Ludicrous Drive Mode paired with a V12 engine, albeit it's headed in the wrong, down south direction. - Gives you a vibe of Utopia without being in Utopia, as the managements are mostly seconded from BDO Utopia

Cons

Not that I could tell. There is Naan.

Pros

You will never run out of work or two-faced backstabbing coworkers to fill your days with misery and remorse.

Cons

The managing partners are specifically selected to be obnoxious and unreasonable cretins. Anyone decent and upright is quickly marginalized or fired.
