Pros

The employee discount is very good. Most of my coworkers are awesome. The starting pay is pretty good for entry level retail.

Cons

Very little room for advancement; People are promoted based on how much management likes them, not on their qualifications. Management picks favorites; Promote people who do not deserve it. They let some associates get away with a lot, while others are written up over very minor mistakes. They have closed jobs due to "not enough people applying" when none of the candidates are people they favor, yet have given jobs to positions with only one applicant. Are very inconsistent about job openings/closings. Some departments have to work extremely hard while others get away with doing nothing; I have worked both in Merchandising and Geek Squad. These two departments are expected to move mountains while other departments are not held accountable for any of their basic job duties. Management does not care about employee well-being; If your problem is not physical/easy to see, you will not be taken seriously. Way too much focus is put on sales goals and credit cards; Exceptional employees in departments that do not depend on either of these factors are never recognized. Full-time hours with none of the benefits; This company will work you to the bone, but will not make you full time. I have worked full-time hours the entire time I have been employed here, and am still part-time. They will tell you that you deserve full-time until you apply for the job, then all of a sudden you are "not qualified".

Pros

The people are great, high energy environment, advancement opportunity, good discount, decent salary, flexible scheduling. If you live people and technology then Best Buy is an awesome place to work.

Cons

The holiday season is brutal. Expect to work 12-15 hour days as a manager, most of the time on your feet. Say goodbye to your family from lay October through super bowl weekend.
