Pros

The employee discount is nice and by far the best thing Best Buy has for the part-timers. Also there are accommodations that manufacturers provide for Best Buy employees that often let employees get really cool and often expensive things for a reduced price. If you are part-time, as long as you put your availability into TLC, it actually is very flexible. You do learn a lot as a Consultation Agent and often learn or see something new or cool almost every time you come in.

Cons

HUGE RED-FLAG. An employee who made multiple in-appropriate sexual remarks about a co-worker was still scheduled at the same time as the victim during the HR investigation into the matter. During the investigation the employee confronted the victim about reporting his behavior. This employee still works for Best Buy and at the same store. The victim exercises caution when in a situation to work with that employee and I noticed the victim avoids interactions and being alone with that employee. I am disappointed in Best Buy for allowing someone who had multiple complaints of in-appropriate comments to still work for them. Geek Squad is no where near competitive with its pay for the work expected out of you. A Consultation Agent gets paid the same as someone working the registers, and mind you, you do SIGNIFICANTLY more work than someone solely at the register. Often you'll be asked to help out other parts of the store; especially if you speak Spanish; when the store cannot even help you at Geek Squad. Your workload is often very high and overall Best Buy sets you up for failure. It is nearly impossible to do the basic questioning and troubleshooting along with required check-in paperwork to stick to the allotted 20 minutes you'll have for 80% of your appointments. The result is often if there are any complications like a client not knowing passwords or a device not being charged; which happens OFTEN; you'll fall behind on appointments and clients get rightfully mad and other tasks that are expected of you like Shipping and Receiving devices, testing and packaging returns, maintaining your work area, and the online courses required of Best Buy. If you are part-time, your amount hours are inconsistent. One week I was only scheduled 8 hours, the next I had 28 hours, the next was 15 hours. For almost a month straight I worked between 36-40 hours a week. It just is not consistent unless your store is consistent and this retail is never consistent. EXTREMELY POOR BENEFITS FOR PART-TIMERS. At the time I worked for approximately 9 months and I had no PTO awarded to me that whole time so when it was time for my wife to give birth, I had no PTO or paid parental leave or any paid child bonding. It was all UNPAID. I cannot stress this enough, Geek Squad is UNDERPAID. Part-timers are compensated poorly with inconsistent hours and poor benefits. The amount of information we are expected to know, the various systems we navigate and use, the pressure to sell memberships, the critical thinking and communication skills along with the tight time-management and multi-tasking skills needed to be proficient should easily warrant $17 an hour after the first 6 months of employment at Geek Squad.
