Pros

By far, the best part of the job were the donors. It was enjoyable to meet so many different kinds of people and have so many different conversations with them. You even start to grow attached to some of them and build friendships. Hardest part of leaving was leaving the donors. Benefits were also incredibly good.

Cons

Management was extremely toxic. They would correct you in front of donors about insignificant things, and constantly tell you what you were doing wrong and there was never any recognition for what you were doing right. You’d work your hardest for no appreciation. Management would also speak to lower employees with an unnecessary attitude for no reason, and would regularly insult and speak poorly about employees to each other in their office. Supervisors would hide out in their office when things would get busy and hectic, and then leave in the middle of it being out of hand. This company offers no work/life balance. They’ll schedule you until 9:45 one night and expect you to open at 5:30 the next morning. You’re expected to use your break time to go to the bathroom, and it’s a struggle use the restroom if you’re not on your break. Favoritism is a huge issue, and promotions will go to favored employees over the ones who deserve it more. All in all, it’s an extremely toxic place to work.

Pros

Good benefits, great way to get experience in phlebotomy, advancement opportunities (to a point, see cons).

Cons

- Unrealistic goals from corporate that burn out employees and cause long waits for donors as a result of a failure to listen to feedback from in-house center staff - High turnover rate - Low staffing with no corporate push or allowance to continue to hire - Easy to move up but due to high production demands, training is often neglected and advancements are usually stalled as a result. If you're interested in BioLife being your career, it is easier to just get hired on to a higher position externally as they will not prioritize any current employee growth if it takes them away from production. -Employee hours can change at a moments notice, employees can be forced to work overtime and their shifts shortened or cut to meet productivity or center needs.

Pros

Entry Level and decent pay, but that's it.

Cons

They micro-managed everything including the way you write--how you write 4's, Y's, dates, etc. They have people who go over the charts just to look for things like this and make you correct them if you slip up and write like a normal person. They don't provide pens, but forbid the use of certain pens, as well. The forbidden are gel pens which is understandable, but I had a non-gel pen approved and later forbidden because they thought the ink looked like a gel pen. When I started the job, we had booths to sit in, but we got a new center and then we were only allowed to stand in one place all day with hot lab coats on. When two of our best employees tried to improve conditions, they were called "negative" and fired. This started a chain of firings including management that had been loyal, good workers at the place for years. The place didn't feel safe and moral was in the toilet. I had a nursing background and I found conditions on the floor to be appalling, but management said it was all healthcare approved. The phlebotomists are high school graduates with no training in IV's, blood reactions, or blood and body fluid precautions except the training that was provided at the facility. They're hanging IV fluids with no understanding--which is something even an LPN or some EMT's can't do. One set of gloves is worn until they become bloody or develop a hole so that set of gloves is used from client to client with no washing of hands. The same applies to the technicians in front who are taking vitals and doing labs. You are not allowed to change your gloves between clients due to time constraints. You can never be good at your job because everyone is expected to do things in the exact same way every time and these things are monitored constantly. In addition, policies change weekly, so you must love change.
