Pros

The culture at BCG is one that supports each person's individual development. I have been impressed with all the support that is provided, and focus on creating situations where you can get the skill set you need to be successful. It is also is very committed to making consulting a sustainable career from a work-life balance perspective. The people at BCG - including the Boston office - are also wonderful. BCGers are smart and intellectually curious, but also very down-to-earth and nice to work with. I also like the diverse mix of people at BCG - whether it's diverse backgrounds or interests.

Cons

As with any consulting firm, hours can be long, but BCG is better than most firms at helping to maintain work-life balance. As long as you set personal boundaries, you can definitely manage the work-life balance. It also helps to have managers on your team that support flexibility and work-life balance, and I have had many of those managers so far. In this economy, the ability to pick and choose from the cases you want to be staffed on is probably a bit less than in other economies, but I have seen BCG still try to match people with cases that meet their development needs, even in a tough economy.

Pros

Work with amazing colleagues on challenging business problems with top-tier clients Professional development - build skills that will set the foundation for a long-term career in business, non-profit, government/politics, or academia Strong corporate culture best characterized as collegial, altrusitic, and supportive/collaborative Salary and benefits set the standard in the industry Work with a truly exceptional company - a firm that treats its employees with respect and delivers great value to its clients BCG provides opportunities to work in corporate and non-profit work

Cons

Work/life balance is tough in management consulting with somewhat frequent travel and time spent working with clients - - - though BCG does a great job of trying to alleviate that, within reason Real personal growth involves some discomfort as you stretch beyond your comfort zone - if you can't handle that, this job will be tough for you.
