Pros

Canva overall is a fantastic place to work. Really great culture, everyone is encouraged to be free, creative, fun, and all that. You get amazing perks including lunches, snacks, health care, etc. I do feel that I had control over the more creative aspect of my work and I had opportunities to work with different teams.

Cons

China office is its own beast. Like all international internet companies, coming to China is very challenging. I was caught in the decision-making process of whether or not the company wanted to fully integrate and localize into the Chinese market. Unfortunately and also understandably, Canva decided to go with a somewhat minimum product localization approach to keep it simple across the global market. This means the product does not have the level of market-specific adaptations for a market so unique as China. This also means marketing a product that does not fit the market 100% is extra challenging.

Pros

- Amazing breakfast and lunch every day, hard to beat the meals here as they’re always varied, healthy and fresh and sourced from a local farm to reduce Canva’s carbon footprint - Generous stock options and salary - Taken seriously by my colleagues and feel like I can actually contribute meaningfully to the product - Has a great culture that’s driven from the top down, they really do care about doing good in the world and ensuring their employees are safe and happy - Flexible work hours - Gym access and free yoga, fitness classes - Great coffee! - Pets allowed at work - So many different club activities, there’s something for everyone, and they’re sponsored by canva, as well as monthly team bonding activities - There’s a real sense of trust in the organisation that everyone is here to do good work and will do their part - Small successes are celebrated - Amazing teammates who are brilliant at what they do and have a wealth of knowledge to learn from - Paid volunteer days - Budget for everyone’s personal development and learning - Transparency from the leadership team - Really awesome to see what they’ve achieved and what they hope to achieve in the future and it’s nice to be a part of it. Feels like a really good company to be part of right now as it’s only going to get bigger and better

Cons

- Lack of feedback from mentor/coach - Hard to see what’s going on across the business as it’s getting very big and growing very fast - No real structure in place so I don’t know how to progress further in my career or how I’m currently tracking - There’s so many new people it’s sometimes hard to keep up - It feels like the tenured people have more “status” because they’ve been here for longer
