Pros

Good benefits, good devices for employees, can work from home if needed, nice facilities. Employees who worked there many years are very knowledgable and courteous

Cons

I've worked here since 2004 and the company isn't what it used to be. Too many levels, too many layers, way too many folks involved you don't know who is who. They're hiring directors and VPs who aren't leaders they're taskmasters. Very hard to get work done given very frequent org changes. Even Rich Fairbanks who I loved has changed his soul and tries to be hip and it isn't working. I loved this company, but it is going downhill culturally. If you're into the hipster scene and you like buzzwords and kissing butt, you'll do fine.

Pros

I am working for this company from last 8 years , close to 5 years as employee . You will love this company working as a consultant rather than employee . Flexible work hours , Good cafeteria's and nice perks . You will definitely excel in this company if you are a project manager or into project management . There are not much pros about this company .

Cons

Though the vision of the company is to become another FB , Google , Yahoo , Intuit they do not have the resources , caliber or the balls to become one in current market . This company is probably few years behind compared to any true tech company . The commitment ( verbal ) is to build the skill set or to hire people who can or are proficient with coding aspects of emerging technologies but they necessary doesn't show while implementing it. All it cares about is being politically right and definitely people can get promoted who are good Project managers or who can suck up to their management . Not a good company who are technical savy.

Pros

Decent benefits, good pay for Richmond, subsidized food on campus

Cons

Capital one used to be a great place to work - most old timers can agree on that. In more recent years they seem to have lost their way. Coherent, integrated strategy is lacking. Performance management focuses only on results and bright shiny objects. Managers have a cursory knowledge of how to effectively manage people, and leadership is lacking all around. Some departments are hiring only externally and ignoring internal candidates in favor of fresh blood. Ironically, this hasn't done much to improve the quality or speed of products coming out, nor has it helped overall morale. Most people I know here are smart, capable and deeply unhappy - they see it as a means to an end. A lot are trapped as this is one of the top employers in Richmond. This will change over the years as new companies start to move to town, but evolution here is slow. The people who are the most successful here are the ones most willing to play the game and play at the expense of others in many cases. A lot of senior management has been here since the beginning of time, and this is all they know.
