Smoke and Mirrors

Pros

Benefits are good Work life balance is possible

Cons

Misogynistic/Bro-culture and favoritism - despite there being a group centered around Women in Technology, the actual team dynamics are very different Buzzwords are more important than good work Quality work is not valued as much as who can peacock the best Their recruiters will tell you what you want to hear to get you in the door instead of telling you what the job is really about Very disorganized A lot of bloated legacy systems manned by people who can't think outside their bubble Not friendly or beneficial to engineers that aren't fresh out of college

Pros

not any. it's so bad.

Cons

The issue with this business, is that associates are either managing too much, managing something they are not good at, or processes and setup at the business make it really hard to deliver results fast. AT THE SAME TIME, managers do not acknowledge this fact, continue to place harsh, unrealistic, and sometimes unsensible expectations on associates, and blame the associates for not working hard enough. These insufficiencies are well obvious in the day-to-day operation of the business. How can leaders blatantly neglect these fundamental challenges the business is going through? This is what pissed us off and why morale is low. What's so difficult about dividing the work a little more fairly? What's so difficult about putting the right person at the right role? What's so difficult about letting go some of your unreasonable expectations? And what's so difficult about reshuffling certain personnel (especially certain leaders) off their current role? Leaders who are trying to make a change, I really hope you take a look at this. No one dares to say this cuz if they did, chances are they will get the blame for being not good enough and risk getting fired. We don't even trust the anonymous surveys to be anonymous.

Changed Since Covid

Pros

Pay is good Health Benefits are amazing 401K is top tier Work on issues that touch people’s lives and it is a point of pride to say you worked on something that people see. I used to think it was awesome to say I worked somewhere with major brand recognition

Cons

Stack Ranking has morphed into this multi level hydra. It used to be clear cut that some employees weren’t up to par, but post covid it has slowly become a noose that is used to squeeze employees. First it was increased expectations(go from running 1 team to 2). Then it was being able to compete with employees who have been there for years. It doesn’t matter if you are new to cap one or the role, you were expected to hit the ground running or get left behind. Capital One used to be a place to learn and grow but now it is a cost effective Amazon. It got to the point where I was working while at a family funeral to stay on top of my job and I dreaded every email notification or buzz I got on my phone. I look back at my time wistfully, I would’ve loved to be a C1 lifer, but I no longer recognize the company I grew to admire.
