Pros
Diverse student population working on highly relevant research projects especially connected with EU and Central European nations. Located in the middle of Budapest which is a fascinating city. Many guest lectures and forums organized by individual departments.
Cons
Lack of collegiality between departments and within units created an environment of isolation for new foreign faculty members. The unit I worked for had an Interim Director who was particularly inept and made for an unpleasant work situation marred by exclusion, random criticism and lack of support. Much depends on quirky Individual Department Heads and standard practices often missing or not enforced. I never met any of the higher admin people which is strange for a faculty body that is seemingly small in number.
