Pros

I'm happy to have a steady job. People are usually impressed to know I work at a name recognized company.

Cons

Too much internal politics and backstabbing amongst senior management. I don't understand how the executives allow this to happen - unless they promote it. Excellent performing leaders are forced to leave for no good reason other than land grab.

Pros

The company has solid financials, extensive resources, and continues to be at the forefront in several aspects of the computer and communications revolution. Internal video and teleconferencing tools provide opportunities for remote working.

Cons

The professed "collaborative" management model results in diluted strategies and reduced ability to execute. Lack of a well-defined vision and consistent leadership means that collaboration occurs within the established cliques (warning to new hires), and the environment is increasingly political and bureaucratic. Well on it's way from being an innovative start-up to an "industrialized" tech company.

Pros

It's a very pretty campus, easy commute from Durham, little traffic, can park next to building, friendly people, great food, its catered and many menu options change daily.

Cons

As an internship, I expected the ability to nurture and grow my career and education. Instead I'm stuck in a box, doing stuff a monkey could do. I have three managers, one is a day to day manager, the other is his supervisor, and the third is my manager/mentor in California. None of them realy give me the time of day. My day to day manager is a super nice guy and I have no problems with him whatesoever. I'm just so discouraged that the opportunities here are so limited. As a contractor, I have no benefits, I can't use 95% of the features that regular Cisco employees can. There is very limited career development here, and what there is, I can't touch, not a regular employee (and what there is is just productivity training and the like, not technical training that I actually need).
