Pros

Cisco is a great place for work/life balance - I would high recommend Cisco for working moms. There is the flexibility of working from home if need be - best thing is people do not abuse that system. You have access to a wealth of informations - technical talks, seminars, classes to enhance technical knowledge. There are also leadership classes to hone leadership skills. Extensive use of IT tools and Web made all the processes online and very seamless. I personally believe the salary, compensation and benefits are at par with the valley companies. Overall, its a great place to have fun and work at the same time.

Cons

One of the biggest complaint I have against Cisco is it's career development plan & implementation for the employees. The ePM every year talks about the growth and career plan - but in reality the managment is always driven by very near term goals and not long term vision. As a result all the career development plans of individual contributors do not go anywhere - again next year the ePM comes and the story repeats. There is not much functional rotation as well - its very hard to convince Level1/2 manager why I would want to move from his/her group and go to another group to do something else - instead of encouraging the individual's passion to do something of his/her interest in another group, the manager is worried about shrinking empire if an employee is lost to another group.

Pros

The work-life balance in general is pretty good(of course that may vary depending upon the team and management). Engineering deadlines are not very aggressive and cisco puts enough resources so that employees do not have to sacrifice the personal commitments for projects. The growth is good especially if one joins from outside with 5+ years of experience. Senior Leaders from across the globe frequently visit India and hold "All Hands Meets" to give market updates and the position of Cisco and its products in the market. If one is interested in corporate social responsibilities, then cisco provides ample opportunities. There are about 20+ NGOs to which cisco India contributes.

Cons

The salary package offered to New Hires(of even top Universities in India) are not competent compared to many other companies with same brand value. If one joins Cisco from outside, the salaries can be pretty high depending upon one's current salary. Most of the Cisco core products(routers & switches) are stable, there is more of maintenance work than new development. I will not recommend some one who intends to start career at cisco India. This is a good place to work after gaining some experience in some company working on new products which provide ample opportunities to work on new product development.

Pros

- Good location (San Jose) - Potential to work on some neat high-end and high-reliability systems (though you might just work on some lame internal tool that shouldn't exist in the first place) - Good, cheap food at cafes - Free coffee and soda (though I heard this changed?)

Cons

- Company isn't very efficient. There seemed to be many groups working on the same exact thing. Or, there were groups working on some internal tool which really shouldn't exist since there was an existing solution (e.g., open source product). - Many employees aren't very nice. The small things - not saying hi, for example - add up. - Lots of needless bureaucracy. There are so many levels of managers and then so many different groups that change all the time. - Over reliance on contractors. - Not very diverse.. almost discriminatory in some ways: Everyone in CDO was so very similar. - Not very innovative
