Horrible bureaucracy for managers

Pros

Interesting group of people, working on good technology. Good sense of long-term vision by the execs. General culture of being willing to take risks on new technology.

Cons

Bureaucracy for anyone trying to hire people, buy captial equipment, or add a vendor to the approved vendors list is horrible. Inter-team petty politics, particularly by some Support managers, is a pain. Strategy seems to change too frequently to be able to implement effectively. Too many people in different customer advocacy roles just trying to justify their own jobs.

Stable place to work - except for the current layoffs. (Many more layoffs than are publicly announced BTW!)

Cons

I could go on for a long time but a quick summary is no chance for career advancement based on merit, effort, and results. That pretty much sucks the life out of your achievers and innovators now doesn't it. The company prefers to "buy" it's way in to new markets rather than doing something inspiring. Cisco's future is like Microsoft's present. (Wouldn't you rather work for a company like Apple?)

Pros

technology, relevance to the industry. You can add cisco to your resume and become a hot commodity any where in the technology industry (assuming that you are good). I consider my time at cisco more as a career builder than as a job.

Cons

lot of waste of resources, ineffective senior management, peter principle's manifestation at its best. Your reviews are not very objective.. and then the mindset of entitlement from least productive dinosaurs!
