Pros

Good pay for high school graduates Good 401(k) plan and company match your contributions Good benefits (dental and vision) Merit increase every year (by a few percent)

Cons

Your pay does not go up with the level of stress The more you know, the more responsibilities you have, and the more you have to do, which creates an unbalanced workloads for the "Teller group" management is biased; favoring one individual over another based on looks

My boss didn't know what I was employed to do

Pros

Great team, if you're hired into a good team. But as the managers typically do not care, a bad team rarely gets better. I loved my team though, until things go awry at a much later stage.

Cons

My boss didn't know what I was employed to do, literally. We never communicated, and I only found out when the secretary got my role wrong and insisted that it was my boss who told her. Hence, no point talking about appraisals..or fair compensaion...or career progression... I couldn't figure what was happening..until..the secretary incident. And when the boss makes it an all boys club, I should have known better than to have stayed and worked my ass off.

Pros

Good resume filler, decent benefits, immediate supervisors easily approachable. Company prides itself on actively seeking employee satisfaction feedback. Flexible schedules.

Cons

Severe lack of clear communication between upper management and employees. Oftentimes critical competency metrics were impossible to understand and/or inconsistent. Good performance is not rewarded with additional freedoms, but with additional workload without extra compensation. Administrative duties such as payroll were expected to be self-completed and off the clock. Constructive feedback and suggestions completely ignored. Coworkers who are intelligent can and do easily leave the company, leaving the company staffed with people who maintain a high level of apathy and a lack of knowledge.
