Pros

Near to home. That is all.

Cons

Incredibly rude management. Work/Life balance appalling. Was called whilst at school and asked to do a shift. Told them that I was currently in school, in a lesson and trying to get an education (even though I had asked them many times not to call during school hours.) Was rudely reprimanded over the phone that I needed to get my priorities straight (and when I say rudely, I mean shouting over the phone in front of customers to me and other staff witnessed and were very disappointed). Very rude and inefficient management style - only after a handful of shifts there when I started, it was bought to my attention that management were continually talking behind my back, complaining that I was not fast enough because I hadn't learned the shop layout yet. Most of my shifts up until then had been on the checkouts and I hadn't time to know the shop inside and out after less than a week of working there. Made to feel uncomfortable by inappropriate and rude ego-trips. During a busy period when I was required on the checkouts, a member of the management team who did not get on well with other staff continually called me away from the checkouts, and I was instantly called back (when I say continually, I mean over and over again in 10 minutes, over the tanoy for all customers to hear.) This then led to me standing between a full-scale argument on the shop floor between a manager and another team member in front of customers to my embarrassment. I was 16 at the time. No employee respect. There was no respect for how hard the employees worked, and the management were just downright rude.

I'm really concerned to hear this. I hope you raised this with the HR team at the time so that they could investigate this fully as this should not have happened. If you have previously advised your manager of the hours that you can not work they should respect this when organising shifts. Our Co-op very much knows the importance and value of education as we have our Co-operative Academies across the country who we work very closely with and offer apprenticeship programmes across our business. ^Catherine

Pros

Very good working environment, friendly and positive place and the Co-op make you feel like a person and not just an employee. Worked there for 5 years and by far the best company I have worked for. Training and development was excellent and support from colleagues and managers was spot on.

Cons

Nothing bad to say as I enjoyed my time with this company and would love to return in the future.
