Pros

The team is great, good breaks, 25% on their own branded food.

Cons

Managers expect you to do it all. Expect you to be the baker, the person that gets the delivery in and out, have to work on the till at the same time doing the store delivery putting things on the shelves, serving costumers and also doing the 5 delivery apps like Uber with no help from management. Smoking breaks not allowed. Expect to be working on your own half of the time because company trying to budget and not add as many staff as you would need on shift. Careful using the discount card as it can be used against you, not allowed to give it to family otherwise they interrogate you and then fire you for ''defrauding the company'' by just buying food for you and your family with a discount card that takes like 3 pounds off if you spend 20 (just an example). Do it but be careful.

Thank you for your review and feedback. Working in convenience retail isn't for everyone. Our Customer Team Members work a variety of tasks in store and depending on the shift that they are on might mean that they work around different areas of the store, or that they could be on one task for their entire shift. Every colleague contributes to the successful running of the store and will need to have a flexible approach meeting the expectations of our customers, however they choose to shop with us, in store or online. We're pleased that you were happy with your colleague member discount. We give colleague members 30% off Co-op brand items, and 10% off non Co-op brands, which rises to 20% on payday weekends. Our discount is extremely generous, much more than our competitors. You can also apply for a partner card, it can be anyone that lives with you. If after an investigation it is found that colleagues are misusing their discount card, including their partner card, then this would be considered Gross Misconduct. It is vitally important that our colleagues use this great benefit within the agreed terms.

Pros

honestly can’t think of a single thing?

Cons

You are pushed to sell co-op loyalty cards to customers and if you don’t reach targets you will be pulled into the office about it. I would also be given a late shift one night and then an early shift the next morning. That meant I wouldn’t get home until after 11pm and would be expected to arrive at the store for 5am the next morning. I was given a 12 hour contract but was easily doing 30+ hours a week. The final straw for me was when my brother passed away and I was told to come back to work after 3 days off from grieving his sudden death “or else I wouldn’t be allowed time off to go to his funeral”. Left shortly afterwards

This isn't a typical experience of working with us and we're deeply sorry that this has happened to you. Our compassionate leave policy covers many areas of grief and loss and as a guide, we’ll generally give up to 10 days paid leave – but some situations may need more, or less. We'd like to learn more about your experience so we can look into this for you. Please visit https://colleagues.coop.co.uk/contacts and complete the former colleague contact form.
