Pros

The educational benefit for those pursuing their masters is unusually good, but you're obligated to work for the company for two years after completion. Decided if the bureaucracy is worth it, I didn't find it to be.

Cons

Collins has employed me for several years, and it’s became obvious that it’s a victim of its own designs. In this case, many iterations of “reorganization” have slowly and steadily drained any remaining notable benefits from the companies storied past. The merger with UTC has brought no real change to the sole contributor, and the organization structure itself is stagnant. Collins itself is a revolving door, and anyone younger quickly realizes that the company would ideally like its employees to remain in the same role rather than promote from within. There is no ladder, career path, or even succession planning, there’s only the eventuality that someone will quit, and maybe, if you’ve waited around long enough you might get their position. Technically, to considered for an actual promotion, a budget for that promotion needs to be approved in advance (which isn't guaranteed every year or even every two) and then, if individuals remain who have been waiting longer than you for the same promotion, they will be first to bat, and so on and so on....*Tenure* All the while, middle management remains the glass ceiling, existing purely to stonewall when they’re asked to provide some objective to work towards to get a promotion. This is because these milestones genuinely do not exist, and I wish I knew that going into it. “Managers” that speak to you three times a year give you a “review” without ever having read what you’ve wrote. There is zero accountability for them, from above or below, so you’re essentially at their mercy for your pittance of a raise. From a high level this is what Collins/RTX has become Regardless of the role, the benefits are the same. If you’re reading this, I’d tell you to look at the competition and come here as a last resort. Just know this employer is no longer trying to retain you if you're hired, but only exploit you for the lowest possible cost overtime. Lets not forget the initiative last year to bring its employees back into the office. Even employees classified as fully remote were changed without their consent and without any regard for their work or personal well being. This is a company that only cares about filling chairs, not about your quality of work or life outside it.

The people are amazing

Pros

The people I work with are great and smart people.

Cons

Recently, corporate has decided everyone is to be on on-site even though we all joined due to having a hybrid role. They are unwilling to work with anyone, be flexible, and have lost all moral in the department.

Pros

- Decent time off; 3 weeks for new employees plus the option to purchase an extra week - Will never run out of work to do

Cons

- Far below average compensation, with raises far below even inflation - Recurrent slashes to benefits - Terrible work/life balance - Constant stress and pressure to work harder and longer hours - No one uses their vacation because they'll be blamed for failing to meet deadlines - Always more work to do than what could possibly get done - Huge emphasis on arbitrary, meaningless deadlines that are often impossible to meet - Absolutely no concern for employees as human beings, or their mental or physical health - Refusal to offer promotions to even the most productive workers (I have been referred to as "indispensable" by my manager, and am still waiting for a promotion that was promised years ago) - Adversarial relationship between managers and subordinates; they are constantly trying to find reasons to punish and pay less - I honestly don't know what the managers do all day, there's no tangible benefit to their roles besides pressuring employees to work harder
