Pros

Great coworkers make excellent friends. Some positions are remote or work from home.

Cons

Middle management is too busy trying to "make their mark". They end up making poor decisions and unnecessary changes that are counter-productive. Then they have to backtrack to the old ways. This cycle continues year after year.

Pros

Flexible schedule, work from home, good vacation and sick time, 401k match, job security (for the most part)

Cons

No opportunity for advancement. Promotions are few and far between, and when they do become available, it's super political when choices are made. Little to no raises, no incentive to work hard since meritocracy was eliminated in bonus structure. Bonues are part of contract, but not a guarantee after an entire year of hard work. A lot of dead weight and many directors with no management skills. Reduction in the quality of health insurance I used to love working at Dell. The last 2-3 years the place has really taken a turn for the worse.

Thank you for taking time out of your schedule to write this review. Although not entirely positive, it is thorough and we find this quite helpful as we try and focus on areas to improve.

Pros

Twenty word minimum to describe the pros at Dell. That sixteen too many. I get a paycheck. Yep, that's about it.

Cons

Over 10k jobs gone in the last FY (See SEC filing for Denali Holding Inc.). It's become a culture of layoffs and downsizing. Michael has to figure out how to pay down the debt. You can only do this two ways - cut costs or grow revenue. There is no plan/idea/play to increase revenue so the only way left it to cut cost. If you look at the people who do work (non management/non executive), they've cut the fat, cut the muscle, and are now doing searches in the bone marrow for anything else they can cut. Executives and upper management are still growing and being promoted. The sales force is increasing but with nothing compelling to sell, revenue continues to fall. Trying to grow via acquisition is like a dying star trying to stay alive by consuming the planets around it. It'll buy a little time but eventually, the star will go nova and explode. Dell is following the same path.
