Poor leadership

Pros

I joined Dell with great hope of leading technical products and still having a work life balance.

Cons

Everything went for a toss in no time. I could see chaos within a few weeks of joining. I realized a lot of this chaos was because of poor leadership (I worked in 4 different teams in my tenure at Dell) and this was a consistent observation. The company has many leaders or so-called people creating strategy and fewer people actually working. These so-called strategists do not provide any clarity on strategy, priorities or business goals. They do not understand any processes or have a sense of urgency. They do not. provide growth opportunities. 3 out of 4 of my managers, just attended my 1:1 asking what is happening and nothing after that. No career guidance, no promotion, no discussion around products or anything that is happening around.

Pros

Used to be flexible & have work life balance. Training program well-structured and provided good resources. Had positive experience overall with direct reports and team members.

Cons

Leadership will blindside you with major policy changes, like a 2 business day notice for a mandatory RTO. Compensation is NOT adequate in comparison to similar roles in this industry. Constant fear of being laid off at any given moment is the cherry on top.

Key Highlights: Innovative Culture: Dell fosters a culture of innovation, encouraging employees to think outside the box and drive meaningful change. Supportive Team Environment: The collaborative atmosphere among teams is outstanding. Everyone is committed to shared goals, making it a pleasure to work together. Professional Development: Dell invests in its employees, offering numerous opportunities for training and advancement in Agile methodologies and beyond. Impactful Work: As an Agile Coach and RTE, I have had the chance to lead significant projects that directly contribute to the company's success, particularly in enhancing cybersecurity and enterprise security architecture. Work-Life Balance: Dell values work-life balance, providing flexible work arrangements that help maintain a healthy lifestyle. Overall, Dell is an excellent place to work for those who are passionate about Agile practices and want to make a significant impact in the tech industry.

Cons

While working at Dell as an Agile Coach and Release Train Engineer (RTE) has many advantages, there are also a few challenges. Areas for Improvement: Complex Hierarchies: The organization's large size and complexity can sometimes lead to slow decision-making processes and bureaucratic hurdles. Resource Allocation: Resource allocation can occasionally be a challenge, particularly when multiple high-priority projects are competing for the same resources. Change Management: Implementing new Agile methodologies across such a vast enterprise can be challenging, as not all teams are equally receptive to change. Despite these challenges, the overall experience at Dell is highly positive, with significant growth and professional development opportunities.
