Pros

Lots of good approaches to dealing with vendors. A hyper focus on metrics that teaches you how to measure and manage your business. Good pay/bonus even after years of reductions. Benefits package. Global business exposure, for some roles.

Cons

A toxic culture that has no sense of work life balance. A hyper focus on metrics that crowds out other avenues of analysis. No career path for non-managers especially with the constriction of D1-IC/IJ band. Non-existent HR Lackluster middle management Tell Dell is a joke

Sales - Dell Services

Pros

Work at home Smart, competent and team oriented colleagues below top two levels of management

Cons

- Ongoing replacement of experienced, highly competent US based staff with inexperienced staff in India with inconsistent competencies and major English language skill deficiencies. - Dell Services senior management team has filled virtually all vacant and newly created management positions with Indian men from Wipro. (same former employee as President of Dell Services) - Vast majority of promotions go to Indian men formerly from Wipro - Complete lack of charisma or even basic presentation skills from entire Dell Services senior leadership team including President - Senior leadership hosted all employee meetings are completely scripted and leaders will not answer any challenging questions submitted during team meetings or go off script for any reason. - No notice is provided when US based staff are replaced with Off-shore resources. Staff are denied the common decency of saying goodbye to colleagues. - Senior leaders did respond to the annual Dell Services Tell Dell employee survey for entire departments with no consequences. - Senior leaders send out dozens of surveys looking for staff input then never share the results of the surveys or publish follow up action plans - Massive movement to reduce employee base pay and replace with significantly increased levels of at risk based pay. - Money saved by moving jobs offshore is enabled by remaining US based employees who assume significantly increased workloads to correct often sloppy work, fill industry knowledge deficits and English language gaps of offshore staff. - Dell Services does not pay full sales commissions to the Dell line of business Account Executives which causes subtle sabotage and replacement of Dell Services solutions with competing solutions from other internal and external partner provider. Perhaps owing to the majority of Dell Senior Managers from India and the associated culture, any employee facing initiatives are given the lowest possible priority if followed up on at all. - Dell has a long tradition of making sure that when the company does well, the employees receive extra rewards as well. Dell Services leadership has no respect for this tradition and has been focused on finding ways to reduce employee income or at least put more and more of it at risk. In addition, Dell Services leadership takes every opportunity to challenge legitimately earned commissions before reluctantly paying out. - Employees who communicate with Indian managers who are at higher levels in the organization will almost never receive a reply. Only those at same or higher levels receive responses. - US Based Customer communication during Important customer facing sales pursuits are often handled by off-shore staff with very poor English language skills resulting in customer complaints, spontaneously cancelled calls and lost sales.

Pros

Flexibility to work remote! There are a few people left there who actually care about people and will be willing to share their knowledge and train you.

Cons

If management is under scrutiny from executive level management then that flexibility will be pulled away from you. Asking for resources to do your job is a no - that includes office supplies, software, laptop accessories, etc. That same management is allowed to get away with all unethical practices - these practices include unethical practices towards their client and unethical practices towards employee. When executive management finds out they do nothing, sweep it under the rug and no longer make eye contact with you. Your professional growth will be at a standstill there is no opportunity for growth. Consider this choice carefully.
