Super political environment

Pros

Amazing campuses, if you are lucky enough to work at Irvine HQ or the Swiss office. Compensation can be really good. Some truly awesome employees.

Cons

Edwards cares more about internal politics and how things look than actually doing the right thing for patients or employees. You constantly hear about “optics”. There is a lot of hype about the company caring about employees and community, but really it is just feels like a vicious game of Russian Roulette. This company should change its name from Edwards to Mussallems, because of Mike’s complete and arbitrary control over all aspects fo the business. There is zero sympathy for business lines or employees who have a tremendous amount of work dumped on them. If a temporary situation requires 70 or 80 hours of work for 3 or 4 months, no one cares. And if you are exhausted, they’ll likely as to fire you as to promote you if you mention it to management. There is crazy employee turnover, sometimes as high as 40% in some units / regions, however HR massages the statistics to show that its “actually” less than 5% turnover. Management often makes unpredictable and surprising changes constantly with little thought for long-term consequences. Close-minded attitude. If you ask about their affirmative action activities, and are not a woman or minority, be prepared for significant blow back.

Pros

Great amenities, great work/life balance, a lot of extras and bonuses are given, even without merit. There's always job security and they are constantly hiring. The responsibilities are diluted so much that you pretty much cease to learn. This may be a pro for those that are just looking for a job to pay the bills, but it is a big downside for those that are drawn to innovating. The campus really is amazing, and provides some fun activities. These are the best amenities that the company has to offer.

Cons

Talent in just about everything except making a good product. The company has lost itself in the midst of chasing the image of being a world class company. I love the people, but honestly as engineers there is a quite a lot of gross incompetence. There is also heavy politics in the management since the company has been around for quite some time and has employed just about everyone in the medical device industry since the industry was born. It is a fun place to work, but the general cultural feel is that everyone is there to be a mooch and get paid. Therefore, most employees opt for the shortcuts and park their ideas at the first "no" they hear. It is a "I hate work" culture and most employees are here to not hate work as much compared to other workplaces that don't have cool stuff like Edwards. There is also zero diversity in thought. Most managers will try to teach you to be like them. I've had a manager tell me to speak just to seem like you know what you're talking about. We are told to do the opposite of innovate, or create, or improve. Conformity is encouraged and being a jerk is respected here. Work culture is horribly traditional and focused on sustaining perception rather than improving.

Pros

Fast pace, innovate products. Company is growing at a fast rate. I have worked with many smart passionate people there. I have great respect and admiration for the CEO and works that he is doing.

Cons

Middle management is awful. If you are not connected by family relations, god child, you must be great at French kisses for any chance of advancement. I have seen many people got promoted because of connections and not of performances.
