Pros
Better pay in comparison to some other departments. Opportunity to progress into other business areas if you want to. Also diverse and accepting people no matter your background. Can be flexible in working from home 40% although presenteeism still seems to be priority over delivery.
Cons
Constant need now to work in excess of conditioned hours (unpaid) to get all the work done, if you don't you risk being labelled a poor performer, too much pressure. Lack of investment over the years to get the basics right internally means lack of an effective management system for even the simplest of processes, knowledge sits with people rather than documented effectively. Therefore new people spend hours finding who they need to find out the correct information (local process) from. Culture can be extremely frustrating, always in crisis mode with more and pressure to do more with less resource. Recruitment system is broken with lack of individuals in that area wanting to do a really good job and get it right.
