Pros

My colleagues and immediate branch manager were all very friendly and supportive in the workplace. I enjoyed the role itself and thought it was very interesting, no day would be the same. As a branch you were treated to lunch now and again and were regularly invited to social events that made you feel welcome. There are plenty of opportunities at Enterprise if you can deal with the 65hr weeks and the terrible pay, and once you get to assistant manager then the money starts to get good but it will take you a couple of years to get to this point. You get to drive a lot of different cars as you spend the majority of the day driving, if you enjoy that sort of thing like me then that's an advantage. This role is extremely demanding, both physically and mentally. It's a career and not a job, Enterprise will become a major part of your life.

Cons

The work life balance is terrible! Before accepting my job offer from Enterprise I looked through many reviews on Glassdoor, a lot of them mention the long days at work. I hate so say it but they were right! I took a gamble and accepted the job. A day at Enterprise consisted of arriving at 7.30am and finishing when the job was done, which was usually no earlier than 7.30pm - you were lucky to get a 30 min break. You are actually entitled to 1 hour but not many people in management will tell you this as it then makes the working day longer if everyone takes 1hr for lunch, they like you to be done as quick as possible. There had been days in my short time at Enterprise where I had worked 14 hours with only a 10 minute break to grab a quick bite to eat, these were not one offs either, it would happen around once a week. The role is made out to be glamorous when in reality you are at the bottom of the management ladder, working 65hr weeks and getting paid peanuts. I worked out my hourly rate and it was around £6.70 an hour - I might as well be stacking shelves at Tesco! It doesn't end there, you are also expected to complete your own training file, concentrate on revision for skills tests, and analyse figures from sales reports in your own time. This job began to take over my life and it only took me 3 months to figure this out. I was told this job was 50hrs a week and that if you worked overtime you should be offered the time back. I have never worked a 50hr week and have never had the opportunity to get any time back. The company has such a high employee turnover which is why they are constantly recruiting, its not worth the hassle, there are plenty of jobs out there that are better than this. Not to mention you are pushed to sell customers products that they don't really need and at times I felt like I was scamming them - it's not unheard of to quote the customer double the price in a sneaky attempt to take their money for products they don't even know they have bought. The majority of employees at Enterprise are working their first full time job post University, therefore lack quite a lot of experience due to their age. Most people in rental are under 30 years old. I would't recommend this job to anyone I know..

Pros

Great people and pretty good benefits. Pay was at industry average. Maternity leave policy included a phase back period which was a nice perk that I haven't seen elsewhere. Great place to work if you don't mind keeping your head down and not rocking any proverbial boats.

Cons

Corporate culture is very formal and conservative, almost militant. If you're natural inclination is to say "yes sir" or "no sir" and not ask many questions, then it's a great fit. Organization is very devoted to hierarchy. Since company is privately owned, there is not much transparency into operations. Micro managing runs rampant so it's hard to make a mark or a name for yourself in your work.

Pros

Good for entry level sales or management positions. The Management Trainee Internship & Trainee Program are both really helpful for getting a good idea of the daily operations in a company, so you can learn a lot about how to run a business from early experience.

Cons

Insanely low retention scores for Trainees and Assistants because the integrity and culture of the company is compromised by management. They're more worried about sales and making a profit than they are developing leaders. They send you to these quarterly training sessions in the beginning to meet the big wigs, who are actually pretty inspiring as they share their career stories to build up and motivate you to work hard towards being promoted, but once you qualify for promotion the reality is that the promotions are unfortunately pre-determined and based on popularity; very low mobility upwards. I've seen branch managers unhappily stuck in the same position for as much as 10 years. The individual branches are stretched thin with few employees because of low retention and you may end up working with only a few others facing challenges when it comes to asking for time off or the branch managers leaving for extended periods of time causing the trainees to fail or figure it out. As you learn policies and how to handle difficult situations, management may or MAY NOT support you when you are trying to handle these situations or when you make a mistake that gets flagged by "corporate." They tell you that you that you will have the opportunity to gain monetary incentives for sales performance if you decide to transfer to the Airport locations, but they don't tell you that you will be mainly working 11, 12 and 13 hour shifts in concrete parking garages with limited air conditioning. So, you have no life and you're always exhausted. For a Fortune 500 company with so many awards and recognition, there are too many unhappy employees.
