Going through Severe Growing Pains

Pros

Gartner has built its reputation on the IT/Supply Chain/Marketing Side where they are best in class for the advisory services they provide and they are a well recognized name that opens doors when you're trying to win new business.

Cons

Through the acquisition of CEB, they have tried to bring the Gartner model to CEB. It is going through a lot of growing pains right now with a lot of internal complexity. The programs at CEB don't have the depth or the support they need to be sold at a world class level like Gartner's legacy business. They are trying to get there, but it takes time. The deal pace has not been what they anticipated, and it will take a lot of effort to get there.

Pros

Training is intense but that is to be expected. There is support for you in the form of mentors, colleagues and trainers who are happy to offer advice.

Cons

Toxic environment where new recruits are constantly watching their backs for fear of being sacked. People are told they are not the "right fit" just a few weeks into the job despite going through a rigorous interview process, and can be asked to leave with no notice. While the company seems to offer a great package in terms of salary and other benefits, there seems to be little or no concern for people who fall behind on targets. The feeling when you start work that you could be sacked at any point, even three weeks into your new role, is unnecessary and unethical. New recruits are also very quickly "Gartnerized", encouraged to have "intellectual curiosity" but only in the Gartner way. There is no room for independent thinking or deviating from best practices. Asking "why" things are done the way they are is met by a disdainful "because they are".

Pros

Collaborative environment. Good benefits. Financially strong .

Cons

This is not a place to go if you are career oriented. Gartner does not value your sales career. The average sales representatives tenure is 9 months (A statistic provided by Gartner). The turnover is the worst I've seen at any company. They ask a lot from you and provide little in return.
