Great Company

Pros

Flexibility; learn something new every day; work from home; smart people; respected in the industry; lateral career opportunities are many; very ethical company; wants to do the right thing by employees and clients.

Cons

Truly global, so many analysts have to work across time zones; analyst pay at the lower levels is not great; getting hired and promoted is extremely hard; extremely metric-focused organization; growing sometimes too fast.

Double edged sword

Pros

Great place to work for analysts

Cons

Dreadful place to work for sales but only if you have a poor mid level manager, who have too much power over your success, or not. Senior management great but oblivious.

Double digit growth continues under Gene Hall

Pros

A clear corporate strategy with relentless execution has delivered exceptional growth for 10 years Brand gives unparalleled access to C-suite even in some of the largest global organisations Some of the brightest people work at Gartner and have done for many years Clients appreciate the advice they receive - the intellectual capital is immense Deep subject matter expertise means analysts always have something to add Massively stronger than the 'competition' with a proven ability to keep growing

Cons

The drive to maintain double digit growth is driving some ridiculous sales behaviour Line management is stretched; many of the better ones have moved on whilst new ones are straight jacketed into a process that stifles any natural managerial flair Fear culture of the CEO Back room politics Sales churn is becoming increasingly noticeable
