Pros

Smart and helpful colleagues. The Gartner name on resume gets you respect from some people. Ability to interact at the C-level and build executive presence skills. World class training. A good life when you have a good leadership team but it truly is luck of the draw and changes annually.

Cons

There is a toxic environment and it is growing. You know it’s serious when even the current top individual contributors and their managers are miserable. Everyone is interviewing elsewhere and trying to get out. If you’re considering joining Gartner now you should realize you’re playing with fire and it’s just a matter of time before you get burned. You are just a temporary fix to their very big problem. The factors that contribute are leadership harassment, verbal and mental beat downs on a regular basis regardless if you’re performing or not b/c it’s never good enough, metrics over mission, growth at all costs, sell the dream today and make it someone else’s problem tomorrow, no respect for time off or not working nights or weekends, etc. I’ve never seen so many people leave a region at one time and I’m confused why Gene hasn’t figured out the bad eggs yet. I’ve been told they are putting people on PIPs then HR is forcing people to resign it’s like HR has a metric for how many people they got to resign this month. Also they’re not doing exit interviews anymore so that tells you something. Also don’t be fooled by the fake reviews. You know the ones with 1 con, many pros and have 5 stars posted daily after a bunch of negative reviews.

Pros

Paid training period, the benefits are decent, and the hours were reasonable. Very superficial "culture" just don't look under the surface.

Cons

This is a revolving door sales machine. They have extremely high turnover within mid-sized enterprise (MSE) and for good reason. Around 1 in 4 account executives will be successful in this role. Sadly, this is not a matter of the AEs relative talent. Once you complete the introductory training, you will arbitrarily be assigned to a team. You will have no say in your assigned vertical, territory or manager and what accounts you walk into. Your success or failure is a matter of luck of the draw. This is a first-time job for many recent college graduates. At times, the culture on the sales floor is more like a fraternity/sorority than a professional organization. Promised one work from home day per week during hiring process, not the case. Individual managers used this as a "reward" for sales gimmicks/games/contests. For supposedly being "the source" for information in the IT space, they have a strong tendency to ignore their own research. Current accounts are targets for upselling, nothing more, whether it is of benefit to the client or not. If you genuinely work to help them, you will be chastised for missing a “sales opportunity.” I truly regret that I wasted a year of my life working for them.

Pros

Gartner has a great brand, disciplined culture, and CAN push people to exemplify more business acumen. Cutting edge research, exposure to high level business strategy, and a challenging environment can help you develop. You can leave at 5 every day. You can easily make $75k with working 8 hours a day with mediocre success.

Cons

Ask your recruiter how they are calculating the percentage of winner circle recipients. Be skeptical. If you were earning over $110k+ previous to this role, know it will be nearly impossible to replicate that type of success in this in SMB, even with the cushy base. Your manager will have less experience than you do.
