Pros

Populated with MOTIVATED people, who want to do a good job. Good pay (until you calculate the hourly rate). No comp time, despite 60+ hour weeks.

Cons

Like so many other reviewers, ZERO work-life balance (12+ hours days not uncommon), heavy and continuous workload. Harman is too successful (too many programs and not nearly enough staff to support ) and HR has not kept up with demand. Outsourcing is a problem, since the other employees are 12 hours opposite US schedule. Co-workers are frustrated and burned out.

Pros

Cool products, smart people in the engineering and marketing levels. Great employee discounts on consumer products. Can be a good place for some career development if you don't stay too long.

Cons

No vision in executive leadership. Harman professes to be a technology leader that wants to attract and retain the best, but it's just lip service. Harman is a technology integrator with a stodgy east coast structure: no employee stock purchase plan, no bonus unless you are very high level, paltry stock grants and onerous vesting schedules. Compensation is based on class system, not merit: all the perks depend on you having "VP" in your title. Harman will implode unless the BoD wakes up and gets a CEO that has a vision for something more than making himself and his buddies wealthy while moving everything to India.

Pros

I am not stuck here forever

Cons

The CEO is a sociopath. He says "stay paranoid" in almost every corporate newsletter her sends out and uses fear tactics to motivate employees. I feel like I live inside of a Dilbert cartoon - it truly is that ridiculous. If you are smart and talented please stay away from this company, they will chew you up and spit you out. Harman will not be around in the long term because they only care about short term growth - everything is smoke and mirrors.
