Pros

Good culture, good tech. People are friendly and a pleasant place to work.

Cons

Still has big corporation problems like open nepotism. I left because my manager was very unqualified, the other applicants for the position were extremely qualified, the unqualified manager who got hired didn't know what he was doing, so built in administrative overhead into all our tasks, which made a 5 minute task turn into a 30 minute, due to have to write an essay for every bit of work you do. He wasn't a bad guy, just had no business being the position he was in. HCA Healthcare is also bad for America, doesn't matter what political spectrum you are on, data is data, and for profit health care is more expensive than public or nonprofit, but there is not any evidence it is higher quality. Profit incentive is also at conflict with health care services. If the goal of the hospital is to turn a profit, then all other factors are going to be lower priorities.

Pros

Well structured and effective training. Free professional uniforms. Facility had a sense of value for it’s staff.

Cons

Positions left vacant for long periods of time. Even management roles. PTO schedule was not organized. Recognition and treats came from leads who used their own money. Hardly saw recognition reward points from department.

Pros

HCA pays their talent acquisition team well. Benefits are also rich and competitively priced.

Cons

The corporate culture is one that places shareholders and profitability above all else. HCA has one of the worst company cultures I have been a part of. Senior leadership is so far removed from the actual work being done on the front lines and their decision making reflects this. I watched the company enact a hiring freeze while suffering critical staffing shortages after the peak of the pandemic simply because the stock lost value. The company was willing to continue overworking already exhausted caregivers and place patient safety at risk all for the bottom line. That should tell you all you need to know about HCA's true values and culture.
