Pros

Being able to get time off the phone volunteering at the dental clinic on site WHEN they allowed you. It was wonderful connecting with people in need and being able to help / give back.

Cons

• Micro management, •people with zero hygiene (wouldn’t shower or wash their hands from bathroom & very nasty bathrooms), •hostile work environment after all. •The moment you’d get up to make coffee they told you you couldn’t, •when you’d try and take your breaks they would come find you and make you get on the phones again, •couldn’t even get to use my PTO for doctors appointments as it never got approved, •they won’t let you move departments if you’re the one brining the teams stats up, •no opportunities to advance, •they add additional products to your skill set with no additional compensation. •management favors their friends for time off the phone etc • 95% of the employees are rude and unhappy. •HR doesn’t care and will not work with you.

Pros

Good experience in your 20's, very stable industries aligned with global macro healthcare trends. Tons of cash, good 401k plan match, and generally a pleasant place to work with some real nice people. Schein is a place where there are not a lot of the typical "jerks" that you find in other companies. Not high stress, good work/life balance.

Cons

Salaries are very under market for Long Island, and all LI companies know Schein sucks for comp. It's a recruiters dream to poach good talent! If you are young, come in and do 2-3 years AT MAX otherwise you will be digging out of the salary gap for the rest of your career. Schein is a Sales & Marketing company run entirely by CPA's and finance geeks - if you're in Marketing Strategy you will be amazed there's not one single executive with any proven Marketing accomplishments. They hoard cash, make acquisitions, and cut expenses to show profit. If you're a VP - welcome to the good life! This company is so overweight on VP's and Directors. Most companies axe VP's when performance sucks, but Schein? Nope, you're golden for life! Instead, they squeeze the lower levels with crappy raises and under-market salaries. The 3rd floor is a boys club with the same few people in Stan's inner circle moving up each year. They have a wake up call coming with Amazon coming into the dental market - the boys on the 3rd floor aren't gonna like it when they see what it's like to make 10 points on everything!

Pros

Good work and atonomy if you have good numbers. Flexibility in how to gain business. Significant training opportunities. Some of the management is very talented. Fortune 500 strength. Opportunity is there to make acceptable money.

Cons

Cheap cheap cheap cheap cheap! I don't know how the company gets away with not paying for any expenses, especially in CA where employment law dictates that employees shall not suffer a loss for either the cost of doing business or expenses incurred as a usual or required part of performing your job. We have to take doctors to lunch, drive all day long, home office et al. None of these are reimbursed. Charge backs on commission for things that would commonly be done as a cost of doing business. Chargebacks can and do sometimes exceed the commission earned. To add insult to injury, if a fee is waived for a customer, legitimate or not, that is simply added to the commission deduction. What starts out as $120,000 gets chissled down to about $100,000 from chargebacks then unreimbursed business expenses will chisle that down to about $70,000. Benefits are expensive, have high deductables and have high out of pocket expenses at the doctors office. Between payroll deductions, co-pays, and out of pocket expenses, expect medical and prescription expenses for a family to be between $3,000 and $8,000 a year.
